Overview
Follow the Draa Valley — Morocco's longest river and palm oasis — through kasbahs and date groves to the remote dunes of Erg Chigaga, with two nights of desert camping.
The Draa Valley is a 200km ribbon of palm oases, mud-brick kasbahs and date groves that traces an ancient caravan route from Ouarzazate to the edge of the Sahara. This four-day journey takes its time through the valley — Agdz, Tamnougalt, Zagora, Tamegroute and its old library — before reaching M'Hamid, where the road ends.
From M'Hamid a 4x4 carries you off-road to the dunes of Erg Chigaga for two desert nights: camel sunsets, sunrise dune climbs, and the deep quiet of a place far from any town. It is a slower, more cultural route to the Sahara than the direct dash, rich in the life of the oasis.
