Why Ourika Valley

Ourika is the easiest cool-down within reach of Marrakech, the desert gateway — a green river valley climbing into the High Atlas, an hour from the city and a world away from the dunes. It's the gentle, watered Morocco: Berber villages, terraced gardens and riverside restaurants with tables set in the running stream. At its head, Setti Fatma is the trailhead for a seven-waterfalls walk, and a Monday souk brings the valley to life. It makes an ideal green prelude before you turn south to the long, hot road to the Sahara — or an easy half-day for those short on time for the desert.

FAQ

Ourika Valleycommon questions.

Does the Ourika Valley fit before a desert trip?+

Perfectly — it's the easiest, greenest day from Marrakech and the cool opposite of the Sahara: Berber villages, a waterfall walk and a riverside lunch, all within an hour of the city. A relaxed way to start before the long road south to the dunes.

Can you swim in the Ourika river?+

You can paddle and cool off in the shallows, and the riverside restaurants set their tables right in the water — a real treat before days in the dry heat of the desert. The current can be strong after rain or snowmelt.
